About this Campaign

Please Donate to Make a Direct Impact toward Ongoing, Hands-On Learning for MPHS Students

Mt. Pleasant High School is honored to have been selected by NC GreenPower to receive their 2016 Solar Schools Grant! While the grant covers almost 60% of the project, we need to fundraise to do our part to reach the full financial goal. The MPHS students will benefit greatly from this project through hands-on learning for many years to come. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation of whatever amount you can and spread the word to others - family, friends, and businesses. (More donation details below.)

Mt Pleasant High School is located in Cabarrus County and has been around for many years. However, the Academy of Energy & Sustainability, which is a program within MPHS, just started in the 2015-16 school year. The students in this program will be involved in every facet of this NCGP solar PV system including planning, fundraising, installation, monitoring, operations and maintenance. It will be used as ongoing curriculum for current and future AOES students. Additionally, it will help to create awareness and drive action around sustainability at Mt Pleasant High School and across all Cabarrus County Schools, which will aid in reducing costs, plus, develop students to be ready to work in these growing industries.

The Vision of the Academy is to be the Charlotte region’s most effective and efficient high school program which inspires and prepares students to pursue a wide range of career opportunities in energy and sustainability.
-Provide relevant curriculum and placement support for students who want to attend post-secondary school or begin a career right after high school.
-Create a platform for students to work directly with businesses to understand and cultivate the knowledge and skills employers are seeking.
-Develop students who are critical thinkers and problem solvers on a local and global scale.
-Facilitate student understanding of today’s evolving energy systems and the value of sustainability.
-Establish MPHS as an exemplary model of energy efficiency measures and sustainability for Cabarrus County Schools to emulate and implement these practices across the district.
